Our Vision

the rig embraces the belief that theater belongs to all of us and reimagines theater as a place for everyone in society. the rig will redistribute the wealth of the arts by bringing theater of the highest possible quality to audiences free of charge, and by using a financial model that keeps overhead low and prioritizes paying artists.

Our Values

Including audiences of all backgrounds by bringing free performances to shelters, low-income family and senior centers, women’s shelters, and any spaces that may have limited access to professional theater.

Prioritizing diversity of class, race, sexuality, and identity in our audiences and our ensembles.

Telling stories that reflect a range of human experiences and that speak both to our individuality and our common humanity.

Creating a dynamic actor/audience relationship, in which actors and audiences can see each other and respond to each other’s energy.

Approaching all of our collaborators—both audiences and artists—with authenticity, intelligence, and respect.

Creating a rehearsal space that cultivates artistic rigor, open collaboration, and bold exploration through curiosity and joy.

Our Inspiration

the rig embraces the model of Ten Thousand Things in Minneapolis, drawing largely from Founding Artistic Director Michelle Hensely’s book All The Lights On.
